🔥 February 7th, 2025 Recap: The Episode You Can’t Afford to Miss! 🔥
This week was nothing short of a battleground, but the grassroots never backed down! We kicked off our power lunch with an anthem that hits deep—Sweet Honey in the Rock ft. Yonas’ Are We A Nation? If you haven’t heard this song, prepare for chills. It asks the hard questions: Who are we? Do we care? You NEED to hear it and bring this conversation to your family and friends.
Black History, Power Moves by Finale Norton
February is Black History Month, and this year’s theme—African Americans and Labor—couldn’t be more timely. I shared my take on Black Jobs while diving into the legacy of the iconic Frederick Douglass. If you haven’t read Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, an American Slave, now is the time! You’ll want to hear my take on how this connects to today’s conversations on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.
🔥The Power Chat: COVA Coalition Brings the Heat!🔥
COVA Coalition made it clear—they’re DONE letting others control the narrative. Coastal Anchor Carrie Short brought the fire, revealing their plan to fight back with words—no editors, no filters, just unfiltered truth. Their first move? Calling out the Trump administration for what it is—a REGIME. You’re going to want to steal their playbook. Tune in to hear their strategy and get ready to take action!
Immigrant Justice: What You NEED to Know
We had a powerful sit-down with Rohmah Javed, Legal Director of the Immigrant Justice Program at the Legal Aid Justice Center—the ONLY statewide Virginia legal aid organization. Her stories were heartbreaking—ICE raids, detentions, and a community under attack. But there’s action we can take. The Virginia for Immigrant Families Coalition runs a critical Rapid Response Hotline—over 100 calls have come in already. Don’t just listen—spread the word.
Rohmah shared their Rapid Response Toolkit and the importance of RED CARDS (Red cards are quick reference cards that help people assert their rights and protect themselves from immigration authorities. The Immigrant Legal Resource Center (ILRC) creates red cards to help people defend themselves against constitutional violations during ICE raids.
Congresswoman Jennifer McClellan’s Wake-Up Call: This is a Coup!
Congresswoman McClellan didn’t hold back. She laid it all out—Trump’s 100 executive orders are a deliberate effort to overwhelm us. And it’s not just him—Elon Musk and Russ Vought are playing their part. But here’s the key: we can’t react to EVERYTHING. We need to be strategic.
Her simple but powerful advice? Call your friends and family in red districts and tell them to FLOOD their Republican legislators’ offices with phone calls. Calls work better than emails—staffers have to pick up the phone. Want the full breakdown? You HAVE to hear her strategy.
The Emotional Gut Punch: Patricia Bracknell Speaks Out
Patricia Bracknell, the fierce founder of the Chamber for Hispanic Progress, shared the devastating reality that immigrants face. She hears the stories, takes the calls, and sometimes cries herself to sleep. And here’s the shocking part: as part of a research project with MIT, UVA, and the Department of Energy, she received a banned words list.
Words she CANNOT use: female, Black, Hispanic, Latinx, Latino, underserved communities, communities with special needs.
Let that sink in. But Patricia and her team refuse to be silenced. Their new phrase? MAGA = Mexicans Ain’t Going Away. Sometimes, you have to laugh to keep from crying. But this? This is a must-listen segment. See full interview here.
